The Telling of the Truth is the blistering new single from Little Sparta. The London band with a Scottish heart has once more joined forces with vocalist Sally Timms (the Mekons) on a track that resonates with bright, rhythmic guitars from Alan Boyd, spiralling violin lines from Susie Honeyman and pounding drums from Scott Skinner.

Written and recorded during a feverish final session at Alan D. Boyd’s long-standing – now sadly long-gone – North London studio, the song finds Little Sparta in passionate, swaggering mode, delivering a wave of melodic thunder to beautifully complement Timms’s effortlessly cool vocals.

The lyrics: Can this be a low? / What will you deduce? / Everything’s contingent / On the telling of the truth, could just as likely be exploring the intricacies and duplicities of personal relationships as serving as a commentary on the dark and manipulative, post-truth world we live in.

On 2020’s Lost Boat Party (now available on vinyl through ElasticStage), Little Sparta conjured images of revellers lost at sea, drifting in the fog, sea shanties echoing into the night. With The Telling of the Truth, Little Sparta offers a glimpse of their as-yet-untitled new album, an unquestionably darker affair – a window into a crumbling building, as the band defiantly plays on and on.
