Alan is a multidisciplinary creative who tells powerful stories through sound and vision. With credits for the BBC, Channel 4, and NFB of Canada, and collaborations across the UK music scene, his work spans music-led documentaries (Four Strings Good, Time of the Last Persecution) and scores for major TV productions. Whether behind the lens or in the studio, he brings authenticity, depth, and creative clarity to every project.

My Story

Alan D. Boyd is a filmmaker, composer, and self-shooting producer with a distinctive voice in storytelling—one that weaves together sound, imagery, and lived experience.

Rooted in the UK’s punk and indie music scenes, his early creative path led him to form bands including the cult shoegaze trio Movieland and the genre-blurring collective Little Sparta. This foundation in DIY music-making and collaboration has shaped a career that crosses boundaries between film, music, and visual art.

As a composer, Boyd has created evocative scores for film and television, including the BBC’s Day of the Triffids and Tim Peake: How to Build an Astronaut. His compositions—ranging from ambient to orchestral—enhance and deepen the emotional resonance of the stories they support.

Alongside music, he is an experienced documentary filmmaker and founder of Little Sparta Productions, specialising in music-led content. His recent projects include Four Strings Good, a celebration of legendary session bassist Mo Foster, and Time of the Last Persecution, a feature documentary exploring the legacy of cult songwriter Bill Fay. A new film, One More Time, is currently in production, focusing on the untold stories of UK session musicians from the 1960s to 1980s.

Boyd’s work is characterised by close collaboration, trust, and a belief that the stories behind the music are as vital as the music itself. He continues to develop new films and recordings—always grounded in authenticity and creative integrity.

Japanese-Italian composer Alessandro ‘Saseko’ Motojima and 70’s B-Movie/Godfather of Whitexploitation White Dolemite infamously collaborated on the movie ‘Sendo Senshi’ however the film was never officially released; the soundtrack was deleted within a month, shrouding the work in myth.
