Fate’s Great Moral is the latest single from Little Sparta, the London band with a Scottish heart, once again featuring the unmistakable voice of Sally Timms (The Mekons). Pacy and insistent, the track surges forward on Alan D. Boyd’s chiming, propulsive guitars, Susie Honeyman’s searing violin lines and Scott Skinner’s relentless drums. A sound that is instantly, unmistakably Little Sparta.

Written and recorded in the final sessions at Boyd’s long-standing North London studio, Fate’s Great Moral captures the band at full tilt — tense, melodic and alive. Timms delivers the lyric with cool detachment, letting the refrain “Love breeds sorrow” hang in the air like a curse or a truth too heavy to deny.

If The Telling of the Truth wrestled with honesty in a fractured world, Fate’s Great Moral turns inward — a reflection on how love, in its purest form, carries the seed of pain. The song offers another glimpse of Little Sparta’s forthcoming album — an ever-darkening landscape where melody and emotion collide, and beauty refuses to yield.
